A guide for young refugees

City of York Council is the Local Authority in the UK which is responsible for ensuring you are safe and well, and that you have the things you need. Even if you live outside of York, City of York Council will be responsible for your care.

The definition of being in care

Legally you are in care if you either have a Care Order in place, or if you are accommodated under section 20 of the Children Act 1989.

To support your immigration process you'll need to share the reasons you have come to the UK, however, you will not need to keep sharing your story as we understand this may be hard for you to talk about.
